The primary purpose of this newly created role will be to drive the operational and strategic development of H.R across the Mersey Division, however Howard will also take the lead role in coordinating H.R activities across the group, ensuring a cohesive and transparent approach to HR strategy across the whole of Peel Ports.

Immediately prior to joining Peel, Howard was Head of People & Culture at Vestas Celtic Wind Technology Ltd for three years, with functional HR responsibility for the UK and Ireland parts of their on-shore Sales Business Unit as well as strategic people responsibilities for the sales function across Northern Europe.

His career has also included two years at civil defence engineering contractor Babcock plc, where he was responsible for the operational HR function across England and Wales – and 10 years at leading logistics organisation TDG plc, where he was ultimately HR Implementations Manager.

Sloane said: "This is an extremely exciting opportunity and one which I am looking forward to enormously. I'm joining at a time of great opportunity for Peel Ports and its people – with major plans underway such as the Post-Panamax River Terminal at Port of Liverpool and increasing operational links between the Port and the Ship Canal. The challenge of heading up the HR function of one of the UK's most strategically important companies is one I relish."

Peel Ports Chief Executive Mark Whitworth said: "I have no doubt that we have secured the services of one of the most able and effective HR professionals in the UK. His appointment is great news for Peel Ports and great news for our staff and customers. Howard has shown a proven track record during his career in senior HR roles at a number of major companies relevant to our business. This is a key time for the Peel Ports Group, with exciting developments to come, and I know we have made a strong appointment."
